Internship Program.

The Isla Internship Program (9-52 weeks) is designed for university students, graduates, or professionals who are interested in serving a worthy endeavor in a field related to their major, expertise, experience, or interest in a cross-cultural setting.

Isla volunteer interns are generally involved in learning, assistance, and implementation of a specific project as identified by Isla and the partner host organization in coordination with the participant.

Isla interns are most beneficial to a host organization when they assist in general operations, implement collaborative project work, and/or participate in extensive research projects.

What kind of training do Isla participants receive? All Isla interns and short term volunteers receive a web-based pre-departure training in the Principles of Sustainable Community Development and cross cultural awareness and sensitivity. All volunteers receive further training upon arrival in-country in the skills needed to integrate into the local community and host organization.

Isla mid-service training and reflection sessions provide participants the opportunity to reflect and enhance their practical experience via further training and useful resources for the participant and the partner community. At the close of service, a final assessment by the participant provides further reflection in regard to enhanced perspectives, personal growth, and lessons learned.

Isla short term volunteer and internship programs provide an excellent opportunity for the volunteer to gain exposure to the field of international sustainable development. Many volunteers return home and continue to serve their communities or continue their work as Peace Corps volunteers, AID professionals or other service oriented careers.

University Credit - While Isla does not grant academic credit, Isla will assist participants with the credit granting process with their institution. Typically, eligibility for university credit is determined in coordination with an academic advisor, professor in the appropriate department, an international programs coordinator, the registrar, or other designated personnel responsible for granting academic credit. Isla will provide documentation that describes the participant’s training and work experience.
