The Information Management and Outreach Intern (IMOI), under the direct supervision of RRHS’ Executive Director will provide strategic support to enable RRHS to record, organize, communicate, and disseminate all organization-related information essential to RRHS’ internal operations, programmatic activities, outreach work, M&E efforts, and publicity. These efforts are part of an organization wide initiative intended to increase the efficacy of rural community health, sanitation, and rain water harvesting services provided to RRHS’ 8000 clients in rural communities. In addition, the focus of the information management component will be on helping the organization to develop their documentation skills. Information management and outreach will increase the organization’s ability to share their impacts and hence, obtain funding support.
The IMO Intern will spend the majority of the time in-office with periodic travel to the field. Typical work schedule for this position is Monday – Thursday from 8:30am-5pm, with occasional site visits or community meetings conducted over the weekend.

The IMO intern is expected to carry out most job functions under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and in coordination and cooperation with the program team. In addition to the direct supervisor, the intern will be assigned a counterpart who will serve as an additional point of resource and reference for the information management and outreach.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
A. Information Management (approx. 60% of the time)
- Assess RRHS staff and volunteers capacity to identify information management gaps.
- Analyze and prepare on the findings including possible approaches and methods for addressing specific opportunities. Work directly with RRHS staff to address specific issues raised in the assessment results.
- Build staff and volunteers capacity in collecting, documenting and organizing information to optimize information flow and usage. A potential project may be the development of an organization-wide database to keep track of the past, present and upcoming projects. Other projects may focus around the creation of an internal information flow and communication strategy.
- Build staff and volunteer’s capacity on using digital and video cameras, including the storing, processing and utilizing of its digital files. The skills acquired will be used to update records on RRHS projects, to ensure accuracy of information and to share out RRHS’ impact and success through the organization's website and social media outlets.
- Train RRHS staff and volunteers in updating (and upgrading, if possible) the organization’s website to increase organizational visibility, and information dissemination.
- Ensure that for all the trainings conducted, tools and materials are compiled into manuals for continued refresher training and for new staff orientation in the future.
B. Outreach (approx. 20% of the time)
- Assist RRHS staff in categorizing and identifying information pertinent for outreach efforts.
- Based on results from the initial assessment, conduct additional surveys as needed to gauge organization’s outreach capabilities and needs.
- Work with RRHS staff and volunteers to develop and write success stories, lessons learned, best practices and shooting and selecting strategic program photos and videos. The intern will be assessing staff and volunteers learning and progress.
- Work with RRHS staff and volunteers to disseminate organization’s achievements through various social media outlets like the organization website, Facebook, blogs, Twitter, newsletters, etc. The intern will be assessing staff and volunteers learning and progress.
C. Administrative Support (no more than 20% of the time)
- All internships involve providing ongoing support to various organizational initiatives, including but not limited to assisting with information management, participating in meeting, field visits and other outreach programs. As an intern for the organization, it is expected that you will provide occasional support of this type as needed, along with other duties and activities identified by your direct supervisor.
Expected Outcomes:
- The entire RRHS staff and volunteers will have written standards for professional information management and outreach.
- The entire RRHS staff volunteers will have received at least 4 hours of training in information management and outreach
- RRHS will have developed a database of the past and current projects including success/case stories, photos, videos, reports etc.
- RRHS will have a minimum of 10 success/case stories with photos and videos developed and uploaded on their organization website and other media outlets.

Desired Qualifications
- Education: Pursuing or achieved a university degree in Information Management, Marketing, International Relations, or related field.
- Prior Experience: Previous experience working, volunteering or traveling abroad, especially in the Global South and/or with rural communities, in addition to comparable experience or education within a related field.
- Language Proficiency: Spoken and written fluency in English.
- Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of community development and the host-country’s culture/history/current events; demonstrated ability to maintain working level contacts with NGO officials and host families; and demonstrated experience and skills in supporting of training or educational events.
- Skills and Abilities: Basic website knowledge and skills, media technology (sound and visual), and organizational development skills. Ability to take initiative, work under minimal guidance both in office and field settings. Organizational and administrative skills. Excellent computer skills in word-processing and database management. Motivation and commitment to work effectively as part of an inter-cultural team. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Other
- The intern’s laptop should be able to work for at least two hours in an area without electricity.
- One of RRHS’ water and sanitation projects is located in a remote place (Nyakabingo) that requires arriving in a motorcycle or hiking in on foot for a few miles. Depending on the exact nature of the intern’s project and involvement with the organization, there may be no visits to Nyakabingo, a one-time visit, or frequent visits throughout the internship.
