Who is Warren R. Campbell?
Isla's Warren R. Campbell International Internship Scholarship is in memory of Warren Campbell, a man who believed in experiential learning and making each experience full of purpose and impact. He was an innovator who dedicated his life to gifting learning endeavors. It is hoped the recipients of this award are like minded and purpose driven leaders.
What is the application process?
It's necessary to complete the internship application form and the two essay questions. You will also be required to select an internship opportunity and preferred start date. You will receive an automated response upon submission of the application. Finalists will be contacted for an interview and selections will be made. The scholarship recipients will be posted on our website.
If you are applying through your university, staff will vet candidates and finalists will be forwarded to Isla for interviews and final selection. Please contact your school to see if it has a priority scholarship agreement with us.

What costs does the scholarship include?
Depending on the scholarship award, either a full program fee of $4000 or a partial fee $2000 will be awarded. The program fee award will cover, travel insurance, host family stays (which includes 2 meals per day), transportation costs in Uganda from and to the airport, per diem rate during orientation days, program support visit by FCDE/isla staff, pre-departure and re-entry training.
NOT included:
Travel costs, tourist visas and any vaccinations will be at the expense of the intern. Travel insurance provided through the Isla organization is covered in the award. Any additional travel insurance required by your university or college is the responsibility of the intern.

Is it possible to extend my internship beyond the 10 to 12 week minimum?
Yes, we welcome you to extend after you arrive in Uganda. If you are interested in extending you must provide written notice to the PD in Uganda 40 days in advance.

Why are internship scholarships only available for Fall, Winter, and Spring start dates?
These start dates have been selected in order to give the Ugandan partner organizations an opportunity to have continuous intern support throughout the year. The donor for our scholarship program wanted to ensure year round intern placements.
What are my responsibilities as a Warren Campbell scholarship recipient?
We ask for your cooperation in promoting the scholarship amongst your networks. You are required to promote the scholarship via your school newspaper in the form of earned media via an interview or article in your university newspaper prior to your trip to Uganda or upon return. A Youtube video is also acceptable for promotion purposes. You will be asked to volunteer your time in choosing future candidates during the final selection phase. Please understand that your skills and qualifications are highly regarded and the selection process is a competitive one.
