Faculty-led Programs & Study Tours
In addition to customized global internships, Isla organizes faculty-led programs and group study tours according to a variety of themes and coursework provided by the professors and in coordination with Isla - allowing students to earn academic credit in a new and exciting way!

Isla’s faculty-led and study tours offer a unique opportunity for students to earn academic credit while immersing themselves in real-world experiences. Tailored to complement specific coursework, these tours provide a dynamic blend of in-field learning, cultural exploration, and academic enrichment, giving students a deeper understanding of the subjects they study in a global context.
Bridging Academics with Real-World Experiences
We organize group trips that allow faculty and students to come together to combine academics with short-term, high impact experiences focusing on specific themes such as environmental conservation, political systems, or cultural studies.

These tours include site visits, guest lectures, and hands-on activities that bring classroom learning to life. The tours are customizable, designed in collaboration with university faculty to align with course objectives and academic goals.

These trips can vary in length and focus, offering students the opportunity to study and explore under the guidance of their professors.
2024 Faculty-led Trips
University of Iowa Education Study Tour
For 10 days, graduate and PhD students from the University of Iowa’s School of Education traveled to Kosovo as part of their “Exploring Kosovo” spring semester course, focusing on education and democracy.
Alongside their professor, the group engaged with local NGOs, government institutions, and both public and private schools, meeting key stakeholders to discuss critical themes such as diversity, inclusivity, and equity.
The study tour also included cultural visits to some of Kosovo’s most renowned cities, offering a deeper understanding of the region’s rich history and culture.
University of South Carolina
Peacebuilding Study Tour
In partnership with the University of South Carolina’s Walker Institute of International and Area Studies and Dr. Carl Dahlman, Isla organized a 2.5-week Peacebuilding Study Tour in Kosovo.
Through two courses—Identity and Conflict, and Peacebuilding—taught by Dr. Dahlman in Prishtina, students delved into key issues such as mobilization, humanitarian intervention, and the rule of law, with a focus on Kosovo’s democratic development and recent independence.
Complementing their morning lectures, students engaged with NGO leaders, government officials, and influential figures from Kosovo’s liberation movement, including US embassy representatives and Kosovo’s first female president. The study tour also featured cultural visits to some of Kosovo’s most well known cities and historical monuments.
To enhance their cultural immersion, students stayed with local host families, an experience facilitated by Isla, providing deeper access to and understanding of the local culture.
