Intern with an organization that specializes in Agriculture and Permaculture in Uganda!
What to expect?
The organization is looking for an experienced, motivated, committed and passionate intern with knowledge and skills in perm gardening training and management. The volunteer will work closely with both the organization's team and managers of target secondary and primary schools. The internship is based in Rukungiri Town. The intern will be responsible for the implementation of climate smart agriculture practices in the target schools and surrounding communities. In direct coordination with the Executive Director, the intern will design and carry out climate smart interventions and will foster capacity building of students, teachers, parents and other interested stakeholders on climate smart practices with specific focus on perm gardening. At the end of the placement period, the intern will be assessed based on a number of indicators including number of school based groups established, number of school and class gardens established, trainings conducted and other critical qualitative intern performance assessment indicators.
The specific roles and responsibilities will include the following;
Work with the organization's ED to design the project plan and develop monthly and quarterly school training and monitoring plans.
Mobilize target schools (already identified) to participate in the permagardening initiatives.
Work with team and school managers to form permagardening clubs in schools.
Plan and conduct practical perm gardening trainings for both students and teachers. Interested parents/caregivers may be mobilized too and engaged in the program activities at the target schools or specific community spaces.
Increase young people’s skills, knowledge and awareness in climate smart agriculture (CSA) solutions through class and age appropriate training methodologies.
Plan and conduct practice based trainings on CSA solutions to in-school young people
Support Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning activities of the program including tracking best practices to document lessons learnt for replication.
Support the design and implementation of activities in line with the annual project plan.
Work with the ED to carry out fundraising through proposal writing to potential funders to mobilize resources for scaling up the project in other Districts of Western Uganda.
