Oral History - Resource Mobilization and Sustainability

Oral History - Resource Mobilization and Sustainability

Intern with a non-governmental and non-profit organization whose mission is to record life stories that intersect with the broader history of Kosovo and the world’s events. The organization is a collective of researchers from different generations, nationalities, and competency level. The initiative was conceived in the summer of 2012 for the purpose of rescuing 'the voices' and experiences of people - leaders and common folk - that Kosovo’s changeable official histories have condemned to amnesia. They wanted to go beyond the narratives of victimization and the straitjacket of group thinking by recovering the individual’s entire life history.

Their first project focused on the life stories of Albanian women, whose roles during times of war and peace have often been side-lined, if not entirely forgotten. The interviews were filmed and transcribed in Albanian, English, and Serbian, and have been collected and archived on their website to be accessed by all. In 2015, the initiative became a fully independent organization and began to develop projects with broader research themes.

Internship Opportunity:

Resource Mobilization and Sustainability Intern

The Resource Mobilization and Sustainability Intern will work in cooperation with the host organization’s project team responsible for fundraising and grant preparation for the projects and activities, and in general their efforts to record and share the oral history in Kosovo:

  • Research local, regional, and global funding opportunities.

  • Design a fundraising strategy that builds a steady, consistent approach based on current successful fundraising activities and new ideas that become a regular and integral part of the organization’s operations.

  • Possible new activities may include overseeing new campaign events, soliciting donations, developing or improving public relations, selling products, improving crowd-funding approaches.

  • Other possible action items may include facilitating participatory discussion sessions, creating a comprehensive communications plan, sharing best practices from the intern’s home country and experiences, leading staff to brainstorm and recognize the value of their own fundraising resources and contributions, and drafting an action plan that includes key timeframe and responsible persons for set activities.
